This week we got some exciting news: the Modern Mandolin Quartet received a Grammy nomination! Our newest release on Sono Luminus Records, “Americana,” has been Grammy nominated for the Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance. The CD also received Grammy nominations for Best Engineered Classical Album (for engineer Daniel Shores) and Classical Producer of the Year (for our producers, Marina and Victor Ledin, who also produced five other classical CDs in the past year).
CD features music by Copland, Gershwin, Dvorak, Bernstein, Bill Monroe
and Philip Glass; classical, modern and roots musics all with an
American sound. The quartet (Dana Rath and Matt Flinner, mandolins;
Paul Binkley, mandola and Adam Roszkiewicz, mandocello)
recorded at Skywalker Sound in Marin County, CA. And it's the only
mandolin CD we're aware of that was recorded in surround sound (the CD
package comes with an extra Blu-Ray disc that lets you experience the
joy of being surrounded by mandolins). To order a copy, visit the "Americana" page. Also, look for MMQ tour dates coming in Spring 2013 and beyond.
